The weather conditions in India are undergoing rapid changes because the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings about impending rain, thunderstorms, and hailstorms, which will occur because of two ongoing western disturbances. The impact will reach its maximum point on April 4 when it will affect most areas in Northwest India.
The weather in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar has changed abruptly during the last three days, while snowfall continues to fall in mountain areas. The IMD has issued an alert for 17 states, which warns of strong winds between 30 and 80 kilometres per hour and predicts rain and lightning that will disrupt both agricultural activities and normal daily life.
A new western disturbance from April 2 will bring fresh rain and snowfall between April 3–5 in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. The higher regions will experience ongoing snowfall, while the plains will receive intense rainfall.
Hailstorm warnings have been issued for Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal, with wind speeds up to 70 km/h. Hail is expected to occur in certain regions of Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Vidarbha. South India will experience rainfall and thunderstorms, together with strong winds that will affect Kerala, Gujarat and the Konkan-Goa region.
The temperature will change throughout the day because Northwest and Eastern India will experience temperature increases, and Central India will see a slight temperature decrease.
Forecast Highlights:
March 31 – Rain, storms, hail in multiple regions
April 1-2 – Continued rain in Central, Eastern & Western India
April 3-5 – Rain, snowfall, and strong winds across North India (peak on April 4)
Advisory:
The public needs to remain vigilant, according to the information released by the advisory. Farmers should protect their crops by staying indoors during hailstorms and avoiding open spaces during lightning storms and severe weather. The country requires people to take precautions because weather conditions continue to change unpredictably.
