Lohri is mainly celebrated by the farming community in northern India, in which they offer their harvested crops to the fire god. Lohri marks the beginning of the harvest season. The day also marks the beginning of the New Year . Additionally, Lohri marks the end of the winter season and on that day winter is at its peak and thereafter winter Gradually it starts decreasing. It is said that during the Mughal period, during the time of Akbar, a person named Dulla Bhatti lived in Punjab. At that time some rich merchants used to sell the girls of the city in exchange for goods, then Dulla Bhatti saved those girls .  Since then, every year on the festival of Lohri, the tradition of narrating the story of Dulla Bhatti in his memory has been going on .
