June 2026: India's tractor industry recorded a strong retail performance in May 2026, with total sales reaching 83,092 units, compared to 74,744 units sold during the same month last year. This represents a healthy 11.18% year-on-year growth, according to the latest retail sales data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA).
Robust rural demand, increased agricultural activities, and positive sentiment in the farming sector primarily drove the growth.
Mahindra Continues to Lead the Market
Mahindra & Mahindra Tractor Division maintained its position as the market leader by selling 19,077 tractors in May 2026, up from 16,519 units in May 2025. The company registered a 15.48% growth in sales. Its market share also improved from 22.10% to 22.96%, reflecting an increase of 0.86 percentage points.
Meanwhile, Mahindra & Mahindra's Swaraj Division secured the second position with retail sales of 15,205 units, compared to 13,649 units in the corresponding month last year. The division posted 11.40% growth, while its market share remained largely stable at 18.30%.
Sonalika Records Double-Digit Growth
International Tractors Limited (Sonalika) sold 11,120 tractors during May 2026, compared to 9,865 units in May 2025. The company achieved 12.72% year-on-year growth, while its market share increased from 13.20% to 13.38%.
TAFE is the top performer in terms of growth from major brands.
TAFE Limited had the highest growth rate among the top three manufacturing companies of tractors. The company sold 10,659 tractors in May 2026 as compared to 7,503 sold in the same month a year ago.
This led to an impressive increase in 42.06% market share; TAFE's market share also increased from 10.04% to 12.83%, and this was the biggest market share gain for any major OEM.
Escorts Kubota Strengthens Its Position
The retail sales of tractors in May 2026 were 9,539 units compared to 8,172 units in May 2025, according to Escorts Kubota. The company grew by 16.72%, and its market share increased from 10.93% to 11.48%.
The companies John Deere and Eicher have experienced growth
John Deere India has shipped 6,039 tractors in May 2026, up from 5,900 in May 2025. The company posted a small gain of 2.35 percent. Its market share, on the other hand, fell a bit to 7.27% from 7.89%.
Eicher Tractors reported sales of 4,922 units as compared to 4,450 units in May 2025. The company grew by 10.60%, but saw a slight decrease in market share to 5.92%.
New Holland Reports Strong Growth
CNH Industrial (New Holland) delivered a solid performance by selling 3,857 tractors in May 2026, compared to 3,103 units in May 2025. The company saw a 24.29% rise in the number of registrations and a 4.15% to 4.64% increase in market share.
Smaller Brands Show Fall
The growth of the Others category was quite strong for the month. Retail sales fell by a whopping 52.10% from 5,583 units in May 2025 to 2,674 units in May 2026. Market share also fell from 7.47% to 3.22%.
Industry Outlook
According to the latest FADA data, large tractor manufacturers saw their market position continue to get stronger, while small manufacturers were having difficulty holding on to market share. In May 2026, the Indian tractor industry continued to gain momentum, with strong performance in the agriculture sector and a positive rural sentiment.
